Subj: Speaking to the Press

Dear Boss,

Can you please talk to the press when the call? I know P.R. really falls into our department and it certainly is part of our functions, but the key press editors and analysts really want to hear the message from the top. We have prepared you copies of all the releases, our positioning as developed by the whole management team, and even a Q & A so you should not be surprised by any difficult questions.

We understand that your background and forte is more engineering and business, and that perhaps you are not always as eloquent as you would like to be. But how the president talks to the press, influences the whole organization. We know from experience that the press will treat us better and with warmer coverage if they can occasionally hear from you too. We will continue to try and catch the calls first, and give you a brief "heads-up" in advance, but this is not always possible.

Sincerely,

Your Marketing Manager.
